About The Position

This position is for a pre-certified Police Officer in the state of Virginia. The role involves operating an assigned patrol vehicle, patrolling assigned areas for traffic and criminal violations, responding to citizen calls, conducting interviews, preparing reports, making arrests, testifying in court, and interacting with community groups. Pre-certified officers will attend an abbreviated 5-week academy and receive a full field training experience. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of illegal drugs and medical marijuana is prohibited. Employees must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol while on duty. This position requires successfully passing a stringent criminal background check due to working in high-security areas governed by the CJIS Security Policy.

Requirements

• Must possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire
• Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program
• Must have left former agency in good standing
• High school diploma or GED
• Must be a US citizen
• Successful applicants must pass a physical agility test
• Possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months
• Binocular vision of 20/25 corrected
• Weight in proportion to height
• No conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors
• No conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault
• Must pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening
• Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required

• Must pass a more stringent criminal background check

• Pre-certified officers will attend an abbreviated 5-week academy and will receive a full field training experience to maximize assimilation and familiarization, emphasizing Chesterfield County Police Department philosophy, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities
