About The Position

Under the direction of the assigned administrator, the Police Officer protects public safety, health, and welfare and enforces federal, state, and local laws in interactions with the public.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Valid, current driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic certificate or the ability to attain POST Basic certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous law enforcement experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols a designated area to preserve law and order, provides crime prevention, and discovers crimes in progress.
  • Apprehends suspects.
  • Investigates crimes and traffic accidents by gathering evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses.
  • Writes reports, takes written victim and witness statements, and testifies in court.
  • Prepares, uses, and maintains assigned equipment, including patrol vehicles, radio equipment, firearms, and less-lethal weapons.
  • Assists the public, including providing first aid to injured or ill citizens.
  • Assists and cooperates with other public safety agencies.
  • When assigned as a K-9 officer, train, and maintain canine.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
