About The Position

Performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities including police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and other traditional and non-traditional related law enforcement activities. Works under the direct supervision of a Police Sergeant, with additional supportive supervision from the command staff of the police department.

Requirements

  • Must be 19 years or older at the time of employment
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State of Florida driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any State
  • Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years are not allowed
  • U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to read and write the English language
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Certification from the Federal Emergency Management Administration, National Incident Management System IS-700 Introduction to NIMS, IS-800 National Response Plan, IS-100 Introduction to Incident Command, and IS-200 Incident Command for Single Resources within one (1) year of employment start date.
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Proof of valid FDLE Law Enforcement Certification
  • Current State of Florida Basic Law Enforcement Certification
  • Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment
  • Working knowledge of federal laws, state statutes, and local ordinances
  • Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Hallandale Police Department
  • Working knowledge of First Responder and CPR techniques
  • Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations
  • Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions quickly and objectively, sometimes under emergency situations
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing technologies and practices
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to learn the City's geography
  • Ability to exercise discretion
  • Ability to meet the Department's physical standards, if any
  • Candidates with qualifying experience and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Police Officer certification may be eligible for a higher entry rate of pay based on their experience.
  • Eligible experience will be that of a state, county, or municipal police officer and FDLE Certification.
  • Starting salary cannot exceed the years of experience minus one pay grade year.
  • Applicants are required to sign an affidavit for non-use of tobacco products in order to be considered for employment.

Benefits

  • $20,000 Sign-on Bonus distributed as follows - $7,000 immediately upon hire & remaining $13,000 upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period
  • Eligible for the Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Payment Program ($5,000 one-time bonus payment after taxes)
  • Certified Police Officers with qualifying experience and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) certification are eligible for a higher entry rate of pay (higher Step) based on their experience.
