About The Position

Under general supervision, plans, organizes, and manages the staff and activities of the Police Department Patrol, Investigations or Support Services Division; assures effective communication of Department goals and strategies. The primary duties and responsibilities include supervising and participating in critical incidents, tactical situations, and criminal investigations; responding to major crime scenes and taking command when appropriate; assigning and managing personnel and resources. Performs administrative functions such as reviewing incoming correspondence and responding to department entities, outside agencies, and citizens. Develops staff skills and conducts performance evaluations; ensures appropriate and timely training of subordinates; inspects personnel, equipment, and facilities to ensure compliance with the Department’s policies and procedures. Maintains discipline and assures compliance with Department policies and general orders. Evaluates Division and Department operations and activities, as well as monitors and reviews trends in law enforcement and recommends changes and improvements to existing programs, priorities, policies, and procedures. Assists command staff in the development and facilitation of strategies designed to meet City goals and objectives. Performs a variety of specialized functions in areas of expertise, including patrol and shift scheduling, internal affairs, volunteer services, community affairs, support services, grant acquisitions, and related functions. Acts in Deputy Chief capacity as assigned. Maintains the integrity, professionalism, philosophies, attitudes, values, and intentions of the Department by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed. Collects and analyzes data; directs and reviews preparation of special reports and record keeping requirements; reviews, corrects, and closes Police reports within scope of authority. Attends community meetings to promote Department’s goals and missions and community safety programs; teaches internal and external classes. Assists other Police personnel, outside organizations and businesses, and Federal, state, and local law enforcement organizations. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminology, Public Administration, or related field
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Police Officer
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience as a Police Sergeant
  • Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification
  • Possess State of Arizona Driver's license
  • Clear criminal record
  • Possess 60 college credit hours, or an Associate’s Degree
  • Must have held the rank of Sergeant with the Casa Grande Police Department for a minimum of 2 years at the time of testing, and be currently employed in a sworn capacity

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree
