About The Position

The Bridgewater Police Lieutenant examination is a sole assessment center administered by the appointing authority under a delegation agreement to establish an eligible list through the Human Resources Division (HRD). Candidates must successfully complete the examination to be eligible for placement on the list. The sole assessment center accounts for 100% of the final score. The eligible list may remain in effect for a period determined by the administrator, not exceeding two years unless otherwise provided by law or HRD policy. The examination is scheduled for January 8, 2027; the location is to be determined. The application period runs from October 30, 2026, through November 13, 2026, and the examination processing fee is $150. The eligible title for this examination is Police Sergeant. Candidates must have permanent civil service status in an eligible title in the department and meet the applicable service requirements by the examination date. Additional rules apply to Police Officers and to examinations whose eligible title has been lowered to the entry-level rank. Applicants may claim credit for qualifying permanent, provisional, or temporary-after-certification service as a Police Lieutenant, subject to verification and the applicable submission deadlines. The posting also describes statutory preference points for qualified veterans, disabled veterans, and eligible candidates with 25 years of police service. The job description provided for the eligible title says personnel must be familiar with departmental rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and developments in the law; communicate these accurately; and promote compliance. They supervise and review personnel performance, respond to emergencies and incidents, take command until relieved by a higher-ranking officer, ensure proper records and reporting, and conduct citizen-complaint or internal investigations as assigned or required. Other duties may be assigned. The posting notes that these duties are illustrative and directs applicants to the Bridgewater Police Department for a complete description. Applications must be received by the deadline. Candidates should receive an email confirming successful submission. The assessment center will be conducted by a third-party vendor selected by the municipality.
