About The Position

High Point University is seeking a Police Lieutenant, Watch Commander. This is a sworn position with the rank of Lieutenant, reporting to the Chief of Campus Police. The role provides support services across all divisions within the agency and serves as one of the Watch Commanders, offering supervisory guidance and oversight during evening/nighttime hours. The position is also tasked with the direct supervision of a Patrol Team and may be assigned as an Incident Commander for special events. The Police Lieutenant/Watch Commander must maintain NC police certification, including firearms qualifications, and is required to wear the HPU campus police uniform. Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with all principal parties, including resources from the High Point Police Department or other law enforcement agencies, as deemed necessary to accomplish the mission.
  • Ensures logistical operational needs are addressed.
  • Provides direct supervision of a Patrol Squad.
  • Serves as one of the nighttime Watch Commanders, providing supervisory guidance and oversight to on-duty personnel.
  • Acts as an Incident Commander over special events as assigned.
  • Supervises the sworn field training program as the Field Training Coordinator.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Campus Police or their designee.
  • Maintains NC police certification by completing all in-service training, including firearms qualifications.
