About The Position

The incumbent in this position performs responsible, commissioned and law enforcement duties in the prevention of crime and to protect life and property, while armed and uniformed. Supervision is from a police official of a higher level, i.e. Police Sergeant, Police Lieutenant, Police Captain and/or Superintendent of Police. The East Jefferson Levee District is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the mission is to protect the residents of East Jefferson Parish from tidal surge, wind-driven water and flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane Tropical Storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.

Requirements

  • Three years of law enforcement experience.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) to be considered for this vacancy unless exempted by Civil Service rules or policy.
  • East Jefferson Levee District does not accept testing exemptions. You must have a test score

Responsibilities

  • Conduct criminal and internal investigations and background investigations assigned by the department.
  • Interview victims, witnesses, suspects, and other involved parties.
  • Collect, preserve, and document evidence in accordance with legal and departmental standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive investigative reports, affidavits, warrants, and case files.
  • Analyze records, surveillance, digital evidence, and intelligence information.
  • Coordinate with prosecutors, courts, and other law enforcement agencies regarding case preparation and testimony.
  • Testify in court and administrative proceedings as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and evidence.
  • Utilize investigative databases, records systems, and law enforcement technology.
  • Participate in surveillance operations and follow-up investigations.
  • Respond to crime scenes or incidents as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned
