About The Position

The City of Dublin's Police Internship Program is designed for individuals passionate about public safety and pursuing careers in law enforcement, public safety, or criminal justice. This program offers relevant experience by working alongside industry professionals, assisting candidates with academic pursuits through training and career development to prepare them for the workforce. Preference will be given to candidates who submit a resume and cover letter detailing their motivations, career goals, and expected gains from the internship.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking program with a minimum Junior (Rank 3) standing.
  • Pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Science, Public Administration, or another related field.
  • Availability to work three 8-hour days per week for the entirety of the 16-week internship program.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation (criminal record check, FBI and BCI fingerprinting), reference check, drug screen, and psychological evaluation.
  • Respect and follow the directions of their mentor when engaged in department activities.
  • Follow the agency's Code of Conduct and Core Values policies.
  • Ask questions and actively engage in exercises and discussions.
  • Present one's self in a professional manner.
  • Remain flexible and adapt to any last-minute changes in daily activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality as documented in the Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Comply with all requirements set forth by the Intern's school (if applicable) and maintain all necessary paperwork.
  • Adhere to the attendance requirements set forth in the Internship Program.
  • Commit to the demanding and structured schedule.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who include a resume and cover letter with their application.
  • Cover letter should expand upon motivations for applying, career goals, and what the candidate hopes to gain from the experience.

Responsibilities

  • Learn about the City of Dublin Police Department's operations in administration, investigations, and patrol.
  • Complete assigned tasks at the discretion of supervisors, focusing on quality and taking ownership.
  • Work on an internship project.
  • Gain knowledge of agency Core Values, Mission, Code of Conduct, and Code of Ethics policies.
  • Receive education on relevant case law, agency RTR, less lethal weapons, and pursuit policies.
  • Participate in ride-alongs.
  • Assist with property impounding.
  • Gain experience in the records department.
  • Participate in tactics scenarios.
  • Assist with ticket filling.
  • Shadow various units including Community Impact Unit (CIU), Detective Bureau, School Resource Officer Program, Prosecutor's Office, Northwest Regional Communications Center (NRECC), Public Safety Liaison Coordinator, Business District Unit (BDU), Drone, and the Delaware Tactics Unit.
