The Fresno Police Department is recruiting individuals committed to public service to join a vigorous law enforcement agency. Police Cadet I is a training class that provides a variety of law enforcement experience. Incumbents perform assignments involving non-emergency police services, traffic and parking control, related paperwork, identifying persons through fingerprints, and answering and evaluating calls for emergency and police services. Incumbents may be assigned to any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays. This training class does not provide permanent status in the classified service under Fresno Municipal Code Section 3-202(p)(5). Qualifying incumbents are expected to obtain full-time permanent employment within the Fresno Police Department within four years (48 months); failure to do so is cause for termination from the program under F.M.C. Section 3-266. The selection process may include an oral examination worth 100% of the score. A panel of officers evaluates candidates’ training, experience, and personal traits. Candidates must pass the panel interview to qualify for the eligible list. The oral examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of 11/23/2026. Candidates certified to the Police Department must successfully complete a polygraph or computer voice stress analyzer test, an extensive background investigation, and a Police Department interview before receiving a conditional offer. Candidates who fail a component of the process may not reapply for Police Cadet I for at least 180 days from notification of the failed component.
