This full-time position at the North Carolina Poison Control, part of Advocate Health, involves utilizing clinical and communication skills to provide poison information to callers of all ages. The specialist will obtain a history of exposure, assess the patient's condition and agent involved, and use various information resources to accurately evaluate each case. A key responsibility is formulating and implementing an appropriate plan of care, which may include communicating recommendations to healthcare facilities. The role also involves evaluating the appropriateness of documented assessments, providing non-toxicological drug and medical information, offering initial crisis intervention for medical or suicidal callers, and referring non-medical callers to appropriate agencies. The position requires working primarily in the Poison Center, involving sitting, frequent telephone use, and computer monitor exposure. Assistance in the Emergency Department may be requested, and the ability to operate standard office equipment is necessary. Each teammate is responsible for working in a safe environment.
