About The Position

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Louisville has a mission to serve as the comprehensive Orthopedic Center of Excellence for the region, improving human mobility and function through patient care, innovation, and education. This mission is directly reflected in the expectations for each physician in three main sections: Service, Teaching, and Research. The role involves maintaining a busy clinical practice, providing surgical care, serving on academic committees, rounding on orthopedic patients, and participating in orthopedic call service at Carroll County Memorial hospital. Teaching responsibilities include hands-on instruction of medical students and residents, oversight of dissection labs, timely resident evaluations, and participation in educational forums and journal clubs. Research expectations include publishing scholarly work, contributing to research databases, and collaborating with residents and faculty on research projects.

Requirements

  • D.P.M.
  • Specialty training in podiatric surgery.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching podiatric surgery to students, residents, and fellows in orthopedic surgery and other clinical departments.
  • Evidence of experience and scholarly activity in podiatry.
  • Holds or qualifies for licensure to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a busy clinical practice working with clinic staff to provide exceptional patient care.
  • Provide surgical care to patients, working directly with operating room staff to provide exceptional care.
  • Serve on academic committees as requested by the Chair (e.g., clinical competency committee, School of Medicine Faculty Affairs, etc.).
  • Round on orthopedic patients in the hospital.
  • Provide orthopedic call service at Carroll County Memorial hospital 1 in 3 days/nights.
  • Perform committee work at Carroll County Memorial hospital as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital bylaws and personal licensure.
  • Provide direct hands-on teaching of medical students and residents rotating through Carroll County Memorial.
  • Coordinate and oversee dissection labs for orthopedic residents to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Provide timely and accurate resident evaluations.
  • Serve as a Grand rounds lecturer one or more times per year.
  • Attend Grand rounds weekly.
  • Participate in the Resident Education Forum.
  • Host resident journal clubs.
  • Publish one or more works of scholarly work in a peer-reviewed journal per year.
  • Help build and contribute to a research database.
  • Work with Podiatry Residents and Faculty on research papers, presentations, and/or posters for orthopedic conferences.
