Podcast Recording Engineer & Editor

BibleProjectPortland, OR
Onsite

About The Position

As our Podcast Recording Engineer & Editor, you will own the weekly audio post-production pipeline for the BibleProject Podcast—from recording intake through final review handoff. You will spend most of your time editing and restoring long-form spoken-word conversations inside Pro Tools, using iZotope RX to solve real-world audio problems and delivering episodes that feel natural, transparent, and emotionally intact. To thrive here, you need professional-level Pro Tools fluency—not occasional familiarity—along with deep dialogue editing instincts drawn from broadcast, radio, film, post-production, documentary, or a comparable environment. You should be comfortable working independently inside a structured weekly cadence and an established AAF-to-Pro Tools workflow. In all your work, you will bring your skills and experience to help further our mission of helping people experience the Bible as a unified story that leads to Jesus. This is a part-time role with no guarantee of becoming a full-time role. It is a great fit if you genuinely want consistent, meaningful part-time production work.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional Pro Tools experience as a primary dialogue-editing environment, with the ability to build, organize, and troubleshoot sessions independently.
  • 3+ years editing long-form, multi-speaker audio (45+ min) in at least one of the following: broadcast, radio, podcast, documentary, or film post-production.
  • Proficient in iZotope RX 9 or later, including Dialogue De-noise, De-hum, De-clip, De-mouth, Spectral Repair, and Ambience Match.
  • Able to execute AAF export/import, media relinking, and session handoff between Descript and Pro Tools without supervision.
  • Familiar with podcast loudness standards (-16 LUFS stereo / -19 LUFS mono) and able to deliver mix-ready files that meet those targets consistently.
  • Able to maintain consistent output within a recurring weekly deadline with limited flexibility.
  • Clear communicator who works well asynchronously and handles biblical and theological content with care.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate proactively about episode status, blockers, restoration concerns, AAF/session issues, and handoff timing so the team can plan around deadlines.
  • Protect the established level of audio quality and advocate for workflow improvements that make weekly podcast production more sustainable.
  • Work within systems with consistency and reliability, flagging issues rather than improvising around them.
  • Edit and clean long-form podcast conversations with a high level of transparency—preserving natural speech, pacing, tone, breath, room tone, and intent.
  • Apply audio processing and restoration tools to repair real-world problems and achieve BibleProject's established podcast sound.
  • Build episode elements: main conversation body, intro/outro voiceovers, music breaks, and additional sound design.
  • Conduct recording sessions—microphone setup, gain staging, routing, headphone monitoring, and level monitoring.
  • Manage media files, AAF import/export, session structure, and file organization across Descript, Pro Tools, and Dropbox—maintaining the established system from intake through handoff.
  • Perform difficult audio repairs cleanly and confidently—including light pacing edits and transcript-aligned assembly—while preserving the speakers’ rhythm and conversational flow.
  • Produce mix-ready, loudness-compliant deliverables that meet broadcast and podcast standards.

Benefits

  • State-regulated sick leave
  • 401k matching program (Eligible 6 months from start date)
  • Random employee perks (swag, meals and other surprises)
