About The Position

Performs a variety of shipping and receiving tasks. Verifies materials received are as ordered and routes incoming items to appropriate departments/locations. Provides day-to-day leadership for all employees in the shipping area. Establish means and methods to insure all employees perform job functions correctly and safely. Ensure deadlines are met, adhere to company policies and procedures, and responsible for employee training.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent education with 3 or more years shipping and or material handling and inventory experience, or combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to effectively present information before groups, within the organization.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to perform necessary calculations for completion of row counts for shipping and daily time sheets.
  • Must be computer literate with intermediate skills in Excel.
  • Must have advanced skills with forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have adequate eyesight and hearing to be able to recognize hazards to equipment and personnel.
  • Must be able to turn in all directions in order to observe objects and employees nearby.
  • Full range of motion in extremities to allow proper movement and handling of product.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for at least 90% of assigned shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Food industry experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
  • Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment.
  • Sorts, counts, packages, labels, insures, unpacks, and/or logs inventory which is shipped or received.
  • Inspects shipments for damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies supervisor and/or purchasing personnel.
  • Delivers items to requisitioning departments and obtains authorized signatures for accepted items.
  • Maintains department database, prepares routine reports, and files shipping/receiving records.
  • Operates dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment; operates shrink wrap machine; assists in routine maintenance of equipment and shipping area.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety standards.
  • Leads, guides, and trains employees performing related work.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
