About The Position

The Shipping Department Lead partners with Shift Leads to ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate execution of all shipping and receiving operations. This position serves as the department's subject matter expert and primary point of contact for resolving operational issues, coordinating daily dock activities, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The Shipping Department Lead plays a key role in maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and leading department employees to achieve operational goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations.
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial equipment, including forklifts; current forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Experience loading, unloading, staging, and transporting materials using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, warehouse management systems (WMS), or similar ERP systems; SAP experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to train, coach, and support employees while ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees, drivers, vendors, and customers.
  • Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve inventory discrepancies and operational issues.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties safely and accurately.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, weekends, and call-ins as needed to support operational requirements.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, lifting, and operating warehouse equipment for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in a lead, coordinator, or supervisory role preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, inventory control practices, dock operations, and warehouse workflows.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Current forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties of a Shift Lead within shipping and receiving operations, including assigning work, monitoring workflow, and completing required documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Promote and enforce compliance with all dock safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment to support shipping, receiving, inventory management, and dock operations.
  • Oversee and manage departmental training programs, ensuring training is effective, properly documented, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the Load Planner to optimize dock scheduling and workflow efficiency.
  • Ensure shift teams adhere to established dock schedules and loading priorities.
  • Monitor shipping and receiving activities to maintain accuracy for outbound finished goods, blank transfers, roll shipments, and inbound deliveries including roll stock, shippers, outsourced window blanks, pallets, and other materials.
  • Receive outsourced window blanks into SAP and ensure accurate system transactions.
  • Ensure materials received into staging areas are promptly picked up and delivered to the appropriate departments.
  • Verify that Shift Leads maintain accurate and timely updates within Open Dock.
  • Ensure drivers are checked in and out professionally, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Order departmental supplies as needed, including airbags, trailer seals, and other shipping-related materials.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies involving finished goods, blanks, and other materials in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all departmental files, records, and required documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Train, coach, and support team members while promoting accountability, productivity, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Assist with continuous improvement efforts designed to enhance safety, service levels, inventory accuracy, and operational efficiency.
