About The Position

The Physician will report to the Chief Medical Officer for clinical matters and the Hospital Chief Executive Officer or his or her designee for administrative matters. This full-time role involves providing professional medical services to patients, focusing on physical and rehabilitation medicine. Key duties include rounding, consultations, collaborating with facility leadership and staff on patient care policies, and addressing medical and clinical concerns. The position requires evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, and management of patients with physical and/or cognitive impairments and disabilities. This includes treating painful or functionally limiting conditions, managing co-morbidities, performing injection procedures, electro-diagnostic medicine, and focusing on preventing secondary complications of disability. The physician will also assess and manage emergent conditions, perform physical examinations, and develop treatment plans. Responsibilities extend to admitting patients, performing history and physical examinations, pre-admission assessments, and reviewing and approving pre-admission screenings. The role also involves leading interdisciplinary team conferences and maintaining accurate medical records in compliance with all standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must possess M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Must hold current state medical license.
  • Successful completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Residency training program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Current practice in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Proficiency in Inclusiveness, Stewardship and Resource Management, Communication, Decision-Making, Problem-Solving, Quality Improvement, Teamwork, Strategic Planning and Organizing.
  • Ability to assist with medical education, including curriculum development, supervision, performance evaluations, daily rounds, lectures, demonstrations, informal discussions, and continuing education.

Nice To Haves

  • Current certification or active participation in the examination process leading to certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional medical services on a full-time basis to patients of assigned hospital(s).
  • Perform services customarily performed by physicians practicing in the specialty of physical and rehabilitation medicine, including rounding and consultations.
  • Collaborate with Facility leadership, staff, and other practitioners to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care policies and procedures.
  • Help the Facility identify, evaluate, and address medical and clinical concerns affecting patient care, medical care, or quality of life.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, consult on, and manage patients with physical and/or cognitive impairment and disability.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with painful or functionally limiting conditions.
  • Manage co-morbidities and co-impairments.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic injection procedures.
  • Practice electro-diagnostic medicine.
  • Emphasize the prevention of complications of disability from secondary conditions.
  • Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with Medical Staff Policy.
  • Perform physical examinations of pain, weakness, and numbness (neuromuscular and musculoskeletal).
  • Develop a diagnostic plan or prescription for treatment, which may include physical agents or other interventions.
  • Evaluate, prescribe, and supervise medical and comprehensive rehabilitation goals and treatment plans.
  • Admit patients to inpatient or other levels of care for treatment.
  • Perform general history and physical examinations.
  • Perform pre-admission assessments.
  • Perform day 4 Plan of Care reviews.
  • Review and approve pre-admission screenings.
  • Perform prompt, courteous, and competent professional services in accordance with generally accepted professional standards.
  • Perform administrative services as reasonably required.
  • Prepare and maintain complete and accurate medical and other records in accordance with generally accepted medical practice and regulatory, legal, and/or accrediting standards.
  • Complete and maintain records including Pre-Admission Screenings (PAS), Individualized Plan of Care (IPOC), Leading the interdisciplinary team conference, Progress Notes (including face-to-face visits), Admission Orders, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI), and other related documents.
