Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Repairs and installs fixtures and systems including potable water, natural gas, sewage, and pumps. Ensures that all projects or jobs are safely accomplished as scheduled to meet established standards of performance, quality, and code/regulations. Maintains specialized systems such as stills, backflow prevention devices, water treatment, and fire protection systems. Ensures that all systems are maintained to meet established standards of performance, quality, and code/regulations. Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment. Estimates and assesses job or project materials requirements and prepares requisitions for materials from the supply warehouse or vendor. All required materials will be obtained prior to starting work on each scheduled job. Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment, and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks, and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment, and areas of operation. Provides after-hours overtime work as required. Participates in an emergency callback roster on a rotating basis. Available for required overtime work on an as-needed basis.
