Workforce Development Plumbing Instructor
About The Position
Virginia Peninsula Community College is seeking an Adjunct Instructor for the Workforce Development Department to teach up to 1500 hours per year. This position will teach NCCER Core, and Plumbing Levels 1-2 courses, supporting the Plumbing program by meeting all training needs. The instructor will guide students in performing plumbing repairs and installations, proper use of tools and equipment, and shop safety. The role involves maintaining program inventories, ensuring sufficient supplies and equipment, preparing instructional materials, monitoring the Plumbing Lab, and securing necessary aids. Additionally, the instructor will foster relationships with the Plumbing industry to ensure training relevance and create job opportunities for students. Other duties may be assigned by the Director.
Requirements
- Teach up to 1500 hours per year.
- Teach NCCER Core, and Plumbing Levels 1-2 courses.
- Instruct students to perform major and minor plumbing repairs and installations.
- Instruct students on care and proper use of Plumbing tools and equipment.
- Instruct students on shop safety.
- Instruct students in Introduction to the Plumbing Profession, Plumbing Safety, Tools of the Plumbing Trade, Introduction to Plumbing Math, Introduction to Plumbing Drawings, Plastic Pipe and Fittings, Copper Pipe and Fittings, Cast-Iron Pipe and Fittings, Carbon Steel Pipe and Fittings, Introduction to Plumbing Fixtures, Introduction to Drain, Waste, and Vent ( DWV ) Systems, Introduction to Water Distribution Systems, Plumbing Math Two, Reading Commercial Drawings, Structural Penetrations, Insulation, and Fire Stopping, Installing and Testing DWV Piping, Installing Roof, Floor, and Area Drains, Installing and Testing Water Supply Piping, Types of Valves, Installing Fixtures and Valves, Installing Water Heaters, Basic Electricity, and Fuel Gas and Fuel Oil Systems.
- Maintain program inventories.
- Ensure there are sufficient consumables and supplies and equipment.
- Ensure all instructional materials are prepared and readily available.
- Monitor Plumbing Lab and equipment needs for proper operations.
- Secure instructional aids and materials as needed.
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with the Plumbing industry.
- Design and delivery of instruction for day, and evening classes.
- Deliver courses that cover knowledge of Plumbing Systems.
- Responsible for student assessment and grading.
- Maintains adequate on-campus presence.
- Provides timely communication with students, staff, and administrators of the College.
