About The Position

The City of Wylie's Building Inspections Division is seeking a Plumbing Inspector. The selected applicant will perform inspections for residential and commercial construction to ensure compliance with codes and zoning ordinances. Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Driver's License.
Must have Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
Driving record must be in compliance with City policy.
Must have a current and valid Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) Plumbing Inspector License.
Must have at least six months extensive working knowledge of residential and commercial building construction including heating/air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems.
Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses as outlined by Emergency Management after hire.

Nice To Haves

Certification(s) as a Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, or Combination Inspector by International Code Council (ICC) preferred.
Other nationally recognized Code Body certifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

Reviews residential building plans and specifications and performs on-site inspections to verify compliance with code requirements including: quality of materials and methods of construction for plumbing, mechanical, electrical installations, zoning requirements and other construction work.
Requires corrections be made when deficiencies exist.
May assist builders and owners in determining how corrections are to be made to ensure conformance with regulations.
Keeps simple records of inspections made and inspection results.
Answers technical code questions and furnishes information to the public (citizens, builders, developers, architects and engineers) regarding the requirements of plumbing and mechanical codes and zoning ordinances.
Assists with the issuance of permits for construction and determination of applicable permit fees.
Investigates complaints, issues court citations for violations, and attends court when violations are filed.
Interacts with citizens, builders, developers, and design professionals regarding inquiries, complaints and recommendations.
Suggests maintenance and upgrades of codes and ordinances to the Chief Building Official as required.
Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety policies and procedures.
Informs supervisor of necessary work activities.
Operates a motor vehicle in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
Other duties as may be assigned.
