About The Position

Greene County Public Health is seeking a Plumbing Inspector contractor for the Environmental Health Department. This is a temporary, contract position that expires September 18, 2026. The role involves conducting plumbing inspections and reviewing/approving plans, drawings, and specifications for plumbing installations to ensure compliance with state and local laws, codes, regulations, and plumbing specifications. The position reports to the Environmental Health Director and requires approximately 50-80% travel. Work hours are generally 8 am - 4 pm, Monday-Friday, with potential for evenings and weekends as needed, not to exceed 40 hours per week. The compensation is $40.00 per hour, with a maximum of 680 hours, and mileage reimbursement at $0.725 per mile.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Seven (7) years of experience in plumbing including sanitary regulation.
  • Six (6) months experience in plumbing installation and drainage inspection.
  • Must possess Ohio Department of Commerce plumbing inspector certification.
  • Must hold a valid Ohio Driver’s license.
  • Must be a dependable individual.
  • Able to read and understand written instructions and maps.
  • Able to add and subtract whole numbers.
  • Must have an understanding of basic biology or science.
  • Capable of learning to respond to questions and concerns from the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts plumbing inspections.
  • Reviews and approves plans, drawings, and specifications for plumbing installations for compliance with state and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Performs plumbing specifications reviews as requested.
