Plumber (1st Shift)
About The Position
Vanderbilt University Maintenance and Operations (VUMO) seeks a Plumber Journeyman to perform routine plumbing work and plumbing construction/installation work. This is a full-time position: 40 hours per week. Must be available to work 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Must be available to work additional hours as required including evening hours. VUMO provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center. VUMO’s annual budget exceeds $100 million in operating expenses and includes over 400 employees. VUMO manages major capital project expenditures totaling ~$125 million annually and facility renewal, replacement and large maintenance project expenditures totaling ~$20 million annually.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED is required
- Valid Driver License is required ; must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
- 5 Years of experience or the equivalent
- Strong communication skills
- Able to stand, stoop, crawl, work on elevated surfaces and be in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
- Push, pull, lift and carry at least 70 pounds.
- Able to work in various weather conditions
- High work ethic

- Journeyman Plumbers License is preferred
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair domestic water lines
- Maintain and repair sanitary sewer system
- Check and repair all backflow devices
- Maintain and repair all steam domestic water heaters
- Maintain and repair all plumbing fixtures
- Maintain and repair all domestic recirculation pumps
- Maintain and repair domestic pressure regulating valves
- Maintain and repair storm sewer system
- Assist on irrigation problems
- Assist zone electrician, plumber, and carpenter in performance of their duties
- Utilize work order system in all aspects, including parts ordering, printing work orders and parts look up
- Set up and monitor personal work order query
- Process daily work order time sheet
- Operate vehicle/golf cart and perform operator level maintenance
- Other duties related to classification
