About The Position

The Plumber Utility Mechanic I assists in the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, plumbing, mechanical piping systems, structural steel, package boiler equipment, water treatment, kitchen equipment, auxiliary equipment, steam, water, and gas systems, and other building mechanical equipment. This role also involves working with auxiliary equipment, steam, water, sewers (both sanitary and storm), irrigation systems, gas and air systems, and other building mechanical equipment. Responsibilities include managing above and underground steam, domestic water, HVAC (chilled and hot water), sanitary and storm distribution systems, and firing, tending, and maintaining pressure boilers to supply heat for buildings and domestic hot water. The position requires driving from site to site.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in plumbing, pipefitting, structural steel (iron worker), boilermaker, millwright, boiler tender, steamfitter, or sprinkler fitter.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • At least 19 years of age at time of hire.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report in compliance with University policies.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer drug screen.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation.
  • Ability to lift, handle, and maneuver tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, drawings, manuals, maps, schematics, and plans.
  • Ability to perform material takeoffs.
  • Good people skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
