About The Position

The Plumber Utility Mechanic I assists in the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of heating, plumbing, mechanical piping systems, structural steel, package boiler equipment and water treatment, kitchen equipment, auxiliary equipment, steam, water, gas systems and other building mechanical equipment; auxiliary equipment, steam, water, sewers both sanitary and storm, irrigation systems gas and air systems and other building mechanical equipment; above and underground steam, domestic water, HVAC (chilled and hot water), sanitary and storm distribution systems; firing, tending and maintaining pressure boilers to supply heat for buildings and domestic hot water. Drives from site to site.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of plumbing, pipefitting, structural steel (iron worker), boilermaker, millwright, boiler tender, steamfitter, or sprinkler fitter experience.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • At least 19 years of age at time of hire.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.
  • Ability to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials, and supplies of the job.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, drawings, manuals, maps, schematics, and plans and do material takeoffs.
  • Good people skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation.

  • Firing, tending and maintaining pressure boilers to supply heat for buildings and domestic hot water.
  • Driving from site to site.
