About The Position

This role involves performing all phases of plumbing for fume hood units. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing each unit according to a checklist and signing off upon successful completion. The job requires identifying necessary parts and assemblies, interpreting basic plumbing drawings, selecting appropriate tools and equipment, and performing various plumbing tasks including soldering, threading pipe, and installing components. The role also includes designing custom plumbing solutions, assisting with planning duties for other associates, and providing feedback to Engineering. Training new associates on plumbing methods and duties is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

Successfully passes the Master Plumber Qualifications Test with a 90% or higher score.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must have passed all master plumber certifications.

Responsibilities

Perform all phases of plumbing of fume hood units.
Test each unit following the checklist and signoff after successful pass.
Identify parts and/or assemblies required to fill the customer order using Kewaunee’s scheduling system paperwork.
Interpret basic drawing for plumbing systems.
Select parts, tools, and equipment applicable to the fume hood pre-plumb system.
Plumb fume hoods as required by blueprint specifications.
Make plumbing takeoff to avoid interferences.
Measure and cut copper tube.
Make a soldering joint using 3/8" nominal 1/2"OD copper tube and union fitting.
Measure, thread, and cut brass and black iron pipe.
Make an American Standard Pipe thread using 3/8" nominal black iron and brass pipe.
Apply thread sealant to threaded pipe or fitting and make a leak tight joint.
Install vacuum breakers for cold water service.
Inspect and leak test threaded and soldered joints.
Braze medical clean copper joints.
Repair, inspect, and leak test threaded, brazed, soldered, and swaged joints.
Clean and cut brass pipe, copper tube, and fittings for oxygen service.
Install single point fume hood plumbing system.
Install front load vacuum breakers.
Correctly complete a plumbing checklist and signoff after successful pass.
Design and custom fit plumbing for unique specials without the aid of specific engineering drawings.
Assist Hood Team Leader with planning duties of plumbing Associates in accordance with daily and weekly shipping schedules using the Kewaunee Priority List.
Provide details to Engineering for plumbing methods, changes, and special devices needed for customer required special plumbing systems.
Train new associates in performing plumbing methods and duties.
Adhere to all safety rules and procedures.
Bring unsafe acts and conditions to the attention of the manager.
Correct hazards and unsafe conditions.
Train other associates in safe work practices.
Investigate accidents, near accidents, and potential hazards.
Actively participate in housekeeping activities and in the safety and health program.
