Designs, installs, operates, maintains, and repairs new and existing complex plumbing systems such as medical and natural gas lines, steam, water, waste lines, and specialized kitchen sterilization and boiler equipment. Assumes hospital-wide responsibilities for all trades on weekends. Coordinates shutdowns of essential systems with departments. Develops specifications for repair parts, components, and complete systems; maintains vendor contacts and supply catalogs. Fabricates piping and control systems that are connected to existing and new plumbing systems from technical calculations. Installs major plumbing systems without the aid of engineering drawings. Installs and tests sprinkler systems and associated alarms along with boiler repair and inspection. Performs electrical and HVAC/R connections to major plumbing equipment and systems. Prepares parts lists, preventative maintenance procedures, test records, and historical documentation. Utilizes power tools, torches, and diagnostic equipment along with backhoes. Works on informal on-call to repair essential equipment.
