About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Plumber 1 for its Facilities Management department. The incumbent will perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of UNLV’s plumbing systems and protection devices. This role ensures that all plumbing systems and equipment function properly and conform to the latest plumbing codes. Responsibilities include working with various plumbing systems such as line supplies, drains, showers, toilets, deep vats, lab faucets/equipment, photographic baths, drinking fountains, hydration stations, wall hydrants, domestic waste lines, acid waste, copper lines, and gas lines. The position also involves annually inspecting and testing protection devices on potable and industrial systems, including backflow preventers and vacuum breakers, and performing necessary repairs or replacements. Routine maintenance on existing systems is crucial to keep the campus operational, addressing issues like line stoppages, overflowing toilets, and inoperable fixtures. The Plumber 1 will also perform plumbing-related preventative and predictive maintenance, ensuring systematic inspection and correction of potential failures. This includes testing for leaks, checking p-traps, and maintaining PM schedules. Work resulting from PM findings will be documented and submitted for work orders. The role requires maintaining accurate records, including daily timesheets, work orders, and leave requests, and coordinating with the Plumber II on stock inventory. Compliance with all relevant regulations is mandatory. The position emphasizes professionalism, efficiency, thoroughness, and a customer service-oriented work environment. Participation in shop meetings and professional interaction with the campus community are expected. The role requires adaptability to changing priorities and a valid driver's license.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of UNLV’s plumbing systems and protection devices.
  • Ensure plumbing systems and equipment, and protection devices are functioning properly and in accordance with specifications.
  • Install all equipment, piping, and machinery to conform to the latest plumbing codes.
  • Work with various plumbing systems including line supplies, drains, showers, toilets, deep vats, lab faucets/equipment, photographic baths, drinking fountains, hydration stations, wall hydrants, domestic waste lines, acid waste, copper lines, and gas lines.
  • Annually inspect and/or test protection devices on potable and industrial systems, including reduced pressure backflow preventers, double check valves, pressure vacuum breakers, atmospheric vacuum breakers, and air gabs.
  • Repair and/or replace protection devices as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance on existing systems to keep UNLV campus operational, addressing issues such as line stoppages, overflowing toilets, and non-flushing urinals.
  • Restore any failed plumbing system to working order as quickly as possible.
  • Perform plumbing related preventative and predictive maintenance for UNLV campus wide.
  • Operate all associated fixtures in the building during PM work requests to ensure care and servicing.
  • Provide systematic inspection, detection, and correction of incipient failures.
  • Test for leaks by advancing valves and checking p-traps.
  • Maintain PM schedule and complete tasks within the appropriate time frame.
  • Submit written reports to the Lead Plumber for work required as a result of PM findings.
  • Ensure required documents, records, and inventory are maintained in accordance with established standards.
  • Maintain thoroughness and accuracy of daily timesheets, work orders, leave requests, and overtime sheets.
  • Coordinate with the Plumber II in maintaining and monitoring stock inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with Department, University, Federal, State, and County regulations.
  • Properly log required information, such as documentation for the State Public Works Board.
