About The Position

Under general supervision, performs plumbing work at the journey level. Supports the plumbing needs of the campus, to include maintenance of the University’s total underground and inside building distribution systems such as water, sanitary sewers and storm sewers with pipes ranging in diameter from 2” to 48”.

Requirements

  • Must be a Journeyman WSSC-licensed Plumber/Gasfitter.
  • Certified w/cross-connect, back flow certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a Driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland with fewer than 6 points.
  • Four years progressively responsible experience in the plumbing trade.
  • Possession of a certification as a licensed plumber from the State of Maryland or from another state that qualifies for reciprocity in Maryland.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the theory, principles, methods and techniques used in the plumbing trade.
  • Thorough knowledge of and skill in basic mathematics including area, volume, weights, and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations related to the plumbing trade.
  • Knowledge of plumbing codes, the requirements for domestic water and waste disposal systems.
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of the plumbing trade.
  • Skill in the installation and repair of sanitary plumbing and appliances.
  • Skill in welding, soldering, and threading pipe.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to prepare summaries and reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow directions.
  • Ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions.
  • Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
  • Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.
  • A non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license valid in the State of Maryland may be required.
  • Candidates selected for employment may be required to be trained to work with asbestos and must be available for emergencies on an as needed basis.
  • Must complete employment eligibility verification (on Form I-9) by presenting documents that establish identity and work authorization within the timeframe required by federal immigration law, and where applicable, to demonstrate renewed employment authorization.
