About The Position

Project Lead the Way - Engineering Teacher SALARY: Commensurate with certification/licensure and experience based on the Wicomico County Salary Scale for Teachers . Includes employee benefits package . HOURS: Full time 10-month position (190 contract days). Contract Unit: This position is part of the Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit. FLSA: Exempt Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Prepares students to build knowledge and skills in engineering, but also empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration and perseverence.

Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland professional certificate/license with the proper endorsement.
  • Complete PLTW Training Institute - 80 hrs/Course at a PLTW affiliate.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using the English language when deemed necessary.
  • Exemplary organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and personal qualities necessary to work effectively with students, parents, and administrators.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of related work experience in the Engineering Field or as a Technology, Mathematics, Robotics or Engineering teacher preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred (student teaching acceptable).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum.
  • Document teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes.
  • Address specific educational needs of individual students.
  • Create a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Prepare students to build knowledge and skills in engineering.
  • Empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration and perseverance.
  • Develop and administer curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
