The primary role of the PLC Specialist is to provide technical support to ensure that the production lines and plant equipment are operational, and provide the technical expertise to troubleshoot, repair and maintain process PLC’s, control systems and computers. This position requires a strong foundation in Siemens Step 7 systems and Siemens TIA Portal software platforms for Programmable Logic Controllers and Human Machine Interface devices, as well as programming motor controls. The specialist will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing plant control systems, PLCs, motion controllers, HMIs, and electrical systems. They will also read and interpret technical drawings, set up, configure, program, modify, and improve PLC programs. The role involves maintaining continuity among work teams through documentation and communication, creating and implementing countermeasures for equipment downtime, and providing second-level technical support to plant electricians and technicians. Collaboration with equipment suppliers and contractors to improve equipment or processes, support for capital projects, and contribution to department goals are also key aspects. The position requires hands-on problem-solving, preparing reports on improvements and corrective actions, and understanding and applying LOTO procedures. Support for weekend/shutdown PM schedules and ensuring PM Work Orders are completed on time are also essential. The role also involves documenting activities, building good working relationships, measuring team efficiency, and motivating/mentoring direct reports (though this specific role has no direct reports). The specialist will maintain the flow of operations by directing the work of employees and communicating production status, requirements, and problems to related departments. They will also direct and oversee outside contractors performing maintenance, installation, or equipment modifications.
