About The Position

As an Intermediate PLC Engineer in the durable goods manufacturing sector, you will play a critical role in designing, programming, and maintaining programmable logic controllers (PLCs) that drive automated manufacturing processes. Your work will ensure that production lines operate efficiently, safely, and with minimal downtime by developing robust control systems tailored to complex machinery. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, electricians, and production managers to integrate automation solutions that meet operational requirements. Additionally, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and optimizing existing PLC programs to enhance system performance and reliability. Your contributions will directly impact product quality, manufacturing throughput, and overall operational excellence within our Canadian facilities.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience programming and maintaining PLC systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block Diagram.
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems, sensors, actuators, and communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
  • Experience with HMI (Human Machine Interface) development and integration.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in PLC programming or automation technologies from recognized institutions.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and industrial network configuration.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations applicable to manufacturing automation (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849).
  • Knowledge of robotics integration and motion control systems.
  • Previous experience working in durable goods manufacturing or similar heavy industrial sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, program, and test PLC control systems for new and existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades of PLC hardware and software to minimize production interruptions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to analyze automation needs and implement effective control solutions.
  • Document control system designs, modifications, and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal protocols.
  • Support commissioning and start-up activities for new machinery and automation projects within manufacturing plants.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for automation-related issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Train and assist maintenance personnel on PLC system operation and troubleshooting techniques.
