About The Position

The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Playschool Lead Teacher to join our Youth Programs team. This lead, under the supervision of the Youth Programs Manager, is responsible for developing and implementing an age-appropriate educational program for an assigned class of children, 3 years of age. The curriculum must meet the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of both individual children and the group. This role also provides supervision of assistant teachers, including assigning daily tasks, facilitating weekly meetings, and completing annual performance reviews.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or minimum two years of experience as a preschool lead teacher preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • First Aid/CPR certification and Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to build effective relationships with children, parents, and staff
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Competence, sound judgment, and professionalism in working with children and families
  • Must pass a Multnomah Athletic Club background check

Responsibilities

  • Teaches classes of up to 20 children (age 3)
  • Creates a warm, safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment
  • Plans and implements weekly curriculum (subject to approval) that supports physical, mental, and social development
  • Organizes activities such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips
  • Publishes weekly family newsletters and updates via Playschool Facebook page
  • Greets parents and children daily and tracks attendance accurately
  • Communicates regularly with parents regarding child development and progress
  • Identifies developmental or health concerns and collaborates with management and families
  • Supports smooth child transitions into the classroom environment
  • Assists with hygiene needs (toileting, diapering) per department procedures
  • Participates in and helps coordinate Playschool events (e.g., Open House, Conferences, Concerts, Field Day)
  • Applies behavior management techniques and enforces safety standards
  • Tracks and manages classroom supply budget
  • Participates in continuing education (minimum 16 hours annually, e.g., OAEYC)
