Plating Operator
About The Position
The Plating Technician is responsible for performing metal finishing processes, including cadmium plating, in accordance with industry standards and company procedures. This role ensures that parts meet required thickness, adhesion, and quality specifications while maintaining strict compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The Plating Technician operates and monitors plating equipment used to coat metal parts for corrosion resistance, durability, and performance. This position involves preparing parts, executing plating processes, performing inspections, and maintaining chemical baths to ensure consistent, high-quality results.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred).
- Experience in metal finishing, plating, or manufacturing processes (preferred).
- Basic understanding of mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Ability to use measurement tools and inspection equipment.
- Knowledge of safety practices related to hazardous materials.

Responsibilities
- Perform cadmium plating processes following established procedures and specifications (e.g., AMS QQ-P-416).
- Prepare parts for plating, including cleaning, rinsing, and surface preparation.
- Operate rack and barrel plating systems depending on part size and requirements.
- Monitor and adjust plating parameters such as voltage, current density, time, and temperature.
- Ensure proper chemical bath composition and assist with solution maintenance.
- Inspect plated parts for thickness, coverage, and visual defects.
- Perform or support testing processes (e.g., adhesion, thickness verification, corrosion resistance).
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Follow all safety procedures when handling hazardous chemicals (e.g., cyanide solutions, acids).
- Identify defects (e.g., burning, uneven coating) and take corrective action such as stripping and reprocessing.
- Support continuous improvement and compliance with quality control standards.
