Platform Engineering Manager

Capital GroupCharlotte, NC

About The Position

As a Platform Engineering Manager, you will lead and evolve Capital Group’s Private Hosting Services platform as a first-class product, delivering secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure capabilities across compute, storage, backup and recovery, virtualization, and operating systems. In close partnership with Product Management and senior technology leaders, you will define the strategy, roadmap, and adoption of a centralized hosting platform that enables self-service provisioning, standardized configurations, and engineered “golden paths” for common workload patterns. You will ensure the platform empowers teams to provision, deploy, and operate workloads safely and efficiently, while embedding security, compliance, and reliability directly into its core capabilities. Acting as a key connector across platform engineering, infrastructure operations, architecture, security, and application teams, you will ensure hosting services are intuitive, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards. You will also lead the transformation of traditional infrastructure into a fully automated, API-driven, Infrastructure-as-Code-based service that reduces friction and eliminates manual processes. In parallel, you will build and grow a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, automation-first thinking, and continuous improvement—while balancing strategic direction with hands-on engagement to meet both current and future business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience leading enterprise infrastructure and platform engineering teams, with a strong background in delivering private cloud and hosting platforms that support mission-critical workloads.
  • Successfully led teams responsible for compute, virtualization, storage, and data protection services, and understand how to unify these capabilities into a cohesive, self-service platform that simplifies consumption and improves reliability.
  • Driven the adoption of AI-enabled and automation-first capabilities to reduce operating costs, decrease reliance on third-party providers, and simplify and scale repeatable operational processes.
  • Excel at defining and implementing golden paths, service catalogs, and standardized patterns that reduce cognitive load for engineering teams while maintaining flexibility for innovation.
  • Comfortable operating in on-prem and cloud-adjacent environments and driving the adoption of modern engineering practices across legacy infrastructure.
  • Strong collaborator who can build alignment across Security, Architecture, SRE, Infrastructure Operations, and Application Engineering, ensuring that platform capabilities meet both technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Understand how to embed security, compliance, and governance controls directly into platform design without slowing delivery.
  • Leader who can engage at both strategic and technical levels—guiding architecture decisions, coaching senior engineers, and driving execution.
  • Experienced in managing distributed teams, developing talent, and creating an environment where engineers can do their best work.
  • Outcome-driven and use metrics and data to continuously improve platform performance, focusing on availability, reliability, efficiency, and developer experience.
  • Mindset of simplification, automation, and modernization, with a passion for transforming infrastructure into scalable, product-oriented platforms.
  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 5+ years of proven leadership building, scaling, and developing high-performing engineering teams, including senior and lead engineers; track record of driving accountability, engagement, and career growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through leaders, setting vision, aligning priorities, and executing at scale across complex, distributed environments.
  • Experience architecting and integrating enterprise-grade platform capabilities (compute, storage, virtualization, backup/recovery) into a cohesive, resilient hosting platform.
  • Deep experience within the Private Hosting ecosystem, including tools from VMware, NetApp, Cohesity, Windows, and Linux.
  • Strong command of DevOps, SRE, and platform engineering principles, with a focus on operational excellence and service reliability.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership, effectively partnering with architecture, cybersecurity, risk/compliance, and infrastructure operations to deliver secure and scalable solutions.
  • Executive-level communication and influence, with the ability to align senior stakeholders, drive decision-making, and navigate complex organizational dynamics.
  • Experience owning and operating mission-critical, high-availability (24x7) platforms, with clear accountability for SLAs, incident response, and service health.
  • Data-driven leadership approach, leveraging metrics (availability, reliability, performance, efficiency) to inform decisions and continuously improve outcomes.
  • Strong track record of driving continuous improvement, operational maturity, and cost optimization, with a FinOps-aware mindset and focus on long-term sustainability.
