About The Position

As a Platform Engineer supporting the Health Services teams, you will provide technical leadership across product teams, architecture, and business functions to advance engineering capabilities and deliver scalable, resilient, modern technology solutions. You will help establish technical direction, promote engineering best practices, and drive consistency in how solutions are designed, delivered, secured, and operated. The role influences architectural decisions, supports modernization, and helps teams use emerging technologies, including AI, automation, and digital workplace capabilities. This role works across multiple products and systems, partnering with Product Managers, Architects, Engineers, and business stakeholders to solve complex problems and improve delivery outcomes. Through coaching, mentorship, and hands-on engagement, you will help product teams make sound technical decisions and improve quality, security, maintainability, and delivery velocity. You will support responsible adoption of automation, AI, and low-code capabilities, with a focus on reducing complexity and advancing sustainable engineering practices. The position leads technical designs for complex, highly integrated application platforms and helps ensure solutions meet architecture and technical standards, security, performance, availability, and service-level expectations. It also supports planning and estimating technical solutions, governance, vendor evaluation and integration, design reviews, and the development of technical skills across teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or direct and applicable work experience.
At least 7 years of experience, including a combination of development experience and providing innovative solutions to complex issues.
Development experience with technologies such as Angular 2 or newer, NodeJS or newer, TypeScript, C#, .NET, Java, or SQL.
At least 4 years of experience in IT infrastructure, architecture design, and operations.
Ability to adapt to major changes in work tasks or work environment.
Informal leadership experience, typically gained through leading projects.
Experience coaching or mentoring others by providing guidance and feedback to strengthen knowledge and skills.
Experience designing technical architectures and keeping abreast of existing and emerging technologies.
Experience consulting with stakeholders to understand needs and provide advice and counsel, and guiding individuals or groups toward completing work, reaching consensus, or taking action.
Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including identifying root causes, developing options with associated benefits, costs, and risks, researching answers, and evaluating likely effects of proposed solutions.
Verbal and written communication skills, including clearly conveying information, tailoring presentations to audiences, and listening and responding appropriately.

Responsibilities

Lead technical designs for highly integrated, complex application platforms, optimizing security, information leverage and reuse, integration, performance, and availability while ensuring alignment with architecture standards.
Ensure solutions meet service-level agreements and remain current with industry best practices, technologies, and Wellmark standards.
Consult with Solution Architects and project teams to create and document design deliverables for application platforms.
Collaborate with Solution and Lead Architects to design and implement technology solutions and identify improvements, eliminate redundancies, and maximize application reuse.
Plan, develop, and estimate technical solutions, and collaborate with other technical teams to provide subject-matter expertise.
Work with the Lead Architect for the assigned domain, business systems analysts, and other stakeholders to provide direction on process improvements.
Consult with business stakeholders on technical planning so architectures align with business expectations.
Oversee and review design efforts for supported solutions, including vendor evaluation, integration with new vendors, design, implementation, and administration.
Support and influence architecture governance and technical standards; provide design specifications for governance approvals and guidance on IT policies, security, and infrastructure.
Train and mentor others on technical design and solution implementation, including design review and quality assurance.
Build business relationships and acumen to align technical designs with business needs, and provide customer service and solutions.
Apply industry best practices in technology, design, and methodology to platform-specific technical designs; research and recommend emerging technologies, techniques, and tools.
Perform other duties as assigned.
