About The Position

Operates the plate freezing and palletizing equipment. This role involves pouring product into a plate freezing machine, reviewing production schedules, selecting correct crane controls, maneuvering the crane, pouring product into plates to the correct weight, smoothing product, moving frozen plates, verifying temperature, aligning the crane, lifting and moving plates, directing and monitoring utility and forklift drivers, ensuring pallets and slip sheets are loaded, answering questions, resolving issues, inspecting and verifying labels, ensuring proper wrapping, checking takeaway containers, performing oracle inputs, operating and refilling the denaturant container, performing light maintenance, conducting basic pre-operation cleaning, and performing weekly sanitation. The role also requires preparing cleaning chemicals, ensuring correct concentration and loading, and demonstrating correct lock-out tag procedures. Team participation is essential, including fostering cohesiveness, accepting responsibility for identifying and resolving issues, and supporting team goals. Familiarity with Simmons' operating systems and the ability to support them is required, along with communicating concerns and improvement ideas. The position also includes performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Pour product into a plate freezing machine.
• Reviews production schedule in system.
• Selects the correct option on crane controls according to standard protocol.
• Maneuvers crane to center over correct plates per system.
• Pours product into plates and stops once the load cell displays the correct weight.
• Smooths product out on the machine.
• Moves frozen plates.
• Verifies the temperature with a calibrated thermometer once the freezing cycle is complete.
• Uses crane controls to carefully and accurately align the crane with a plate freezing machine.
• Manipulates the controls to lift up plates, move them to the receiving bed, and release product.
• Directs and monitors the activities of Utility and Forklift Drivers in the assigned room.
• Directs Forklift operators to bring more pallets as needed.
• Works through Utility to ensure pallets are loaded into the pallet magazine.
• Directs Utility to load slip sheets.
• Answers questions and works to resolve issues as they are presented.
• Inspects and verifies labels.
• Verified items on takeaway containers have the correct label.
• Visually inspect to ensure they are wrapped properly.
• Ensures the label has labels in it.
• Ensures oracle inputs are done correctly.
• Operates the denaturant container and verifies it has enough chemical, refilling as needed.
• Performs light, basic and routine maintenance on machine.
• May grease bearings, ensure machine guards are put on properly, apply basic lubrication, and conduct basic pre operation cleaning.
• Responsible for weekly sanitation in accordance with set procedures.
• Prepares cleaning chemicals; ensures the correct concentration, and ensures the proper cleaning chemicals are loaded.
• Demonstrates correct lock-out tag procedures.
• Participates as a member of the Team.
• Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
• Attends appropriate team meetings.
• Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
• Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
• Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
• Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
