POSITION SUMMARY The Plastics Machine Operator (Sheetline) is responsible for the setup, operation, and optimization of extrusion sheetline equipment used in the production of high-quality Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) sheets. This role requires strong technical expertise in plastics processing, including extrusion parameters, material behavior, and downstream equipment. The operator will play a key role in maintaining process stability, minimizing downtime, ensuring product quality, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the production environment.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience operating plastics extrusion sheetline or similar processing equipment (PET experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong understanding of extrusion processes, polymer behavior, and thermal dynamics
  • Experience with die setup, gauge control systems, and downstream equipment (rollers, winders, cutters)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process-related issues independently
  • Mechanically inclined with working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-output manufacturing environment
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and consistency
  • Ability to read and follow SOPs, technical specifications, and production documentation
  • Physically capable of standing for extended periods (12-hour shifts) and performing manual tasks as required
  • Reliable with strong attendance and a proactive work ethic

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in PET sheet extrusion or food-grade plastics manufacturing
  • Familiarity with automated control systems (PLC/HMI interfaces)
  • Forklift certification or material handling experience

Responsibilities

  • Set up, start up, and operate PET extrusion sheetline equipment, including extruders, screen changers, melt pumps, dies, chill rolls, trim systems, and winders
  • Monitor and adjust critical process parameters (temperature zones, pressure, screw speed, line speed, gauge control) to ensure optimal sheet quality and consistency
  • Perform tooling changes, die adjustments, and calibrations to meet product specifications
  • Troubleshoot process issues such as gauge variation, gels, contamination, sheet defects, and equipment malfunctions
  • Conduct in-process quality inspections (thickness, clarity, surface finish, dimensional accuracy) and take corrective action as needed
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and assist maintenance teams with mechanical troubleshooting when required
  • Maintain accurate production records, process logs, and downtime reporting
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, food-grade, and GMP standards
  • Optimize production efficiency by reducing scrap, minimizing downtime, and improving line performance
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to process optimization and equipment performance

Benefits

  • Hourly wages starting at $23–25/hr (based on experience)
  • Wage increase after 3 months
  • Company-paid life insurance, health, and dental benefits
