The Plastics Machine Operator position is detail-oriented, requiring adherence to procedures for operating plastic injection molding machines. Operators monitor machine functions, identify and correct malfunctions, and may be involved in placing and removing parts, trimming excess material, testing electrical components, and light assembly. This role involves close collaboration with supervisors, co-workers, and technicians to ensure safe equipment operation and quality part production within specified time standards. Punctuality and consistent attendance are crucial.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Produce quality work at a consistent pace, standing on feet for 8-hour shift.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and safely.
  • Capable of both repetitive, focused work and multitasking.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Able to understand and follow directions given in English when reinforced by physical demonstration.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Willing to learn and apply basic knowledge of the injection molding process, machine order of function, and associated tooling issues.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities; exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; gives/welcomes feedback; contributes to building a positive team.
  • Attendance/Punctuality – Is consistently at work and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Reads work orders and follows verbal direction/physical demonstration to perform work required while meeting specified time standards.
  • Verifies basic mold setup and machine program settings fundamental to safe operation of plastic injection molding machines and associated equipment.
  • Checks parts for quality.
  • Starts idled machines or assumes control of machines in operation at the beginning of the production shift.
  • Performs machine shutdowns at the end of the production shift, or in preparation for tooling and material changeovers.
  • Accurately records production data in both written and computerized format.
  • Ensures proper labeling and performs inventory transactions of production components and finished parts.
  • Maintains a work environment safe for self, team members, machinery, and tools.
  • Assists fellow operators by tending machinery during breaks and lunches as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of surrounding work areas.
  • Communicates with supervisors, leads, co-workers, and technicians regarding the status of ongoing work.
