About The Position

This position provides high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in plastic injection molding processes, equipment, and practices. The instructor will prepare students for entry-level and advanced careers in manufacturing through training in areas such as injection molding machine operation, mold setup, material handling, process control, equipment safety, quality assurance, troubleshooting, and related manufacturing skills. Faculty may be assigned instructional hours in either curriculum or continuing education courses as necessary to meet minimum workload requirements and institutional needs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the planning, analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of curriculum development and instructional strategies.
  • Knowledge of current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding machine components, operating principles, setup procedures, processing cycles, auxiliary equipment, and safe shutdown practices.
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic materials, resin identification, material drying and handling, processing characteristics, contamination control, regrind considerations, and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Knowledge of injection molding process parameters, common molding defects, scientific or systematic process-development concepts, troubleshooting methods, and basic statistical process control.
  • Knowledge of mold construction and function, mold protection, installation and removal practices, basic lifting and rigging awareness, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze problems; identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Ability to effectively direct the provisions of the academic area to which assigned in support of the college programs.

  • Education or Certification(s) or industry experience in injection molding or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in plastic injection molding processes, including machine components, startup and shutdown, material preparation, mold installation and removal, process setup, operation, and documentation.
  • Develop instructional materials, lesson plans, assessments, and learning activities that support student success.
  • Evaluate student performance through assignments, examinations, laboratory activities, and competency-based assessments; maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, certifications, and student progress.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of curriculum, course content, instructional methods, and program outcomes to ensure alignment with industry standards, workforce needs, and accreditation requirements.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and revise instructional materials, laboratory exercises, and training resources.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and effective learning environment by overseeing laboratories, equipment, tools, and training aids; ensure compliance with college policies, industry regulations, and applicable safety standards.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career pathways, employability skills, industry certifications, and transfer or employment opportunities within the mold machine field.
  • Teach students to establish and monitor processing parameters such as barrel and mold temperatures, injection pressure and speed, holding pressure and time, cooling time, clamp force, shot size, cushion, back pressure, and cycle time.
  • Demonstrate systematic troubleshooting of common molding defects, material-handling issues, machine alarms, and process variation; reinforce root-cause analysis, quality-at-the-source, and approved corrective actions.
  • Assess material, supply, and equipment needs for the program; submit requests for the ordering of supplies.
  • Help maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in the program efforts to recruit and retain students; coordinate the development, review, and revision of program publications, publicity and other community relations’ activities.
  • Work with industry partners and faculty to ensure our programs are teaching the most up to date techniques and the latest industry trends.
  • Serve on college committees, attend required meetings, participate in faculty development activities, and support departmental, divisional, and institutional initiatives.
  • Ensure the adherence to safe and appropriate work practices and procedures.
  • Develop, review, and update course outlines, lesson plans, laboratory exercises, safety documentation, student assessments, and instructional materials in coordination with the department chair and appropriate program leadership.
  • Teach the identification, handling, drying, processing, and safe disposal or recycling of thermoplastic materials in accordance with manufacturer guidance, Safety Data Sheets, and college procedures.
  • Instruct students in basic mold construction and function, mold protection, proper clamping and alignment, lifting and rigging awareness, auxiliary equipment, and approved mold-change procedures.
  • Teach part inspection and process documentation using appropriate measuring instruments, visual standards, setup sheets, sample parts, and production data; connect results to dimensional requirements and defect prevention.
  • Assess material, tooling, supply, and equipment needs; help maintain an accurate inventory; report machine, mold, guarding, ventilation, electrical, hydraulic, and safety concerns promptly; and assist with routine preventive-maintenance activities within the instructor's authorized scope.
  • Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to keep instruction aligned with current equipment, materials, automation, quality, lean-manufacturing practices, and regional workforce needs; participate in student recruitment and retention activities; and perform related duties as required.
