About The Position

The Plasma Center Technician supports plasma center operations by screening donors and performing phlebotomy. The role reports to the Plasma Center Manager and requires a commitment to customer service, quality, and donor and team safety. The plasma collected is used to make medicines for patients. This is a part-time position. Most shifts are 4 to 6 hours per day, at least 3 days per week. Shift availability, days, and times are confirmed early in the interview process, and team members are informed in advance of schedule changes. The role includes a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position is based at the BioLife center in West Springfield, Massachusetts, in a fast-paced, friendly environment. Work involves potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and prolonged glove use for 90% of work tasks.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to walk and/or stand for the entire work shift.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to lean, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach above the shoulders and below the knees.
Ability to lift up to 5 pounds, occasionally lift materials up to 32 pounds, and rarely lift up to 50 pounds.
Fine motor coordination, depth perception, and ability to hear equipment from a distance.
Ability to wear gloves for prolonged periods; 90% of work tasks require prolonged glove wear due to potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens (risk level 1).

Nice To Haves

At least 1 year of experience in a customer- or patient-facing role is helpful.

Responsibilities

Answer phones and greet and focus on donors while ensuring donor and team safety.
Screen new and repeat donors and take and record donor vital signs and finger-stick results.
Use the Donor Information System, prepare donor charts, maintain accurate records, and coordinate donor compensation.
Identify operational opportunities for continuous improvement and initiate changes to center processes using company-approved procedures.
Work a variety of shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Perform phlebotomy to support plasma center operations.
