About The Position

The Plant Utilities Technician is responsible for understanding, maintaining, and repairing steam and high purity water generation equipment/components within the manufacturing facility. It is important for the individual to have a strong technical background that will enable appropriate decision making to ensure the success of the facility and safety of personnel.

Requirements

1-3 years of experience working as a mechanical technician in an industrial or regulated manufacturing environment.
Experience with quality process and utilities systems.
High School diploma or equivalent, such as Trade School graduate, Military, or Vocational-Technical school training.
Experience in regulated manufacturing environments or with high-purity water and clean utilities.
Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft Suite, Outlook, Intranet, etc.).
Ability to troubleshoot and a general mechanical aptitude.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree, trade certification, boiler operator, instrumentation, or bachelor’s degree with previous experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Work Order Systems (CMMS).
Experience in regulated manufacturing environments or with high-purity water and clean utilities.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

Responsibilities

Operate, maintain, and repair site Utilities systems, including Boilers, Fire Suppression systems, Potable Water distribution systems, Steam & Condensate distribution & return, Oil-Free Process Air systems, Water Softeners, Ozone Generators, Clean Steam Generators, and other Utilities equipment.
Complete scheduled maintenance orders ensuring adherence to CMMS metrics.
Repair and maintain utility piping, quality water generation equipment, boilers, water filtration systems, steam, and compressed air networks.
Ensure all systems are maintained in compliance with EHS and GMP standards.
Operate, inspect and maintain systems such as boilers, condensate pumping stations, water softeners, compressed oil-free process air, high purity water systems, and fire suppression systems.
Perform routine checks, take samples, log data and complete required documentation in line with procedures.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, valves, and liquid transfer systems.
Perform planned maintenance, small projects and equipment upgrades from installation to commissioning.
Monitor systems daily, record data, and ensure cleanliness of all utility areas.
Manage and request spare parts, communicate shortages to management.
Perform emergency and routine maintenance.
Maintain equipment, tools, logbooks, PPE, and documentation in a safe, calibrated, and GMP-compliant manner.
Report abnormal incidents, near misses, and quality issues promptly to relevant stakeholders.
Participate in training programs to enhance skills and maintain up-to-date training.
Complete basic repairs, daily assignments and follow directions with minimal supervision.
Execute more complex projects and diagnose problems working alongside more senior technicians.
Develop utility skills through OJT, by executing assignments with more senior technicians, and by completing training.
Assure all documentation (logbooks, permits, work orders) is complete and accurate.
Stay current with all required GSK site, EHS, Regulatory and Global training.
Adhere to safety procedures, safe work practices, and GSK standards.
Progression expectation of this role is to have the skillsets necessary to advance to a G10, Tier 3 Plant Utility Technician level within 6-9 months.
