About The Position

Entry level position responsible for basic operational knowledge of all plant systems and operation of the equipment within specification and environmental regulations working under the direction of experienced Plant Technicians. This role involves monitoring plant operations, recording data, checking equipment, and reporting any malfunctions. The technician will also provide mechanical, electrical, and/or instrument and control skills for maintaining mechanical equipment, understand operational relationships of equipment to plant systems, and perform troubleshooting and documentation. A key aspect of this role is ensuring strict adherence to safety, health, and environmental procedures, including Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safety, and PPE. The position also involves assisting with clearances in the electronic clearance system and utilizing computer-based maintenance systems and other software applications. The goal is to gain knowledge of the entire plant cycle and its functions. The level of the position will be determined by applicable skills and experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0-2 years related experience
  • Demonstrate standard computer-based skills
  • Demonstrate effective oral & verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge in the use of electrical hand tools and metering equipment.
  • Must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program in order to be considered a candidate for this position (excluding applicants currently employed in specific positions in Fossil Generation).

Responsibilities

  • Monitors plant operations and records data at specified intervals in appropriate logs and computers.
  • Checks all pumps, motors, valves, and instrumentation associated with the plant system.
  • Reads meters and records data at specified intervals in appropriate logs and computers.
  • Immediately reports malfunctioning equipment or abnormal meter readings/equipment performance to the senior operator or supervisor and completes the appropriate records.
  • Provides mechanical, electrical, and/or instrument and control skills for maintaining mechanical equipment.
  • Understands the operational relationships of mechanical/electrical equipment to plant systems.
  • Performs troubleshooting, documentation, and assists in the resolution of problems discovered during shift.
  • Ensures strict adherence to safety, health and environmental procedures as they relate to plant operations and maintenance including but not limited to Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safety and PPE.
  • Assists with activities of clearances in the electronic clearance system.
  • Utilizes the Computer Based Maintenance system and several other computer - based software applications systems.
  • Gains knowledge of the entire plant cycle and how it functions.
