About The Position

The role of Plant Operator is integral in the carbon black manufacturing process. Plant Operators follow an intricate process of combining raw materials, monitoring reactors, utilizing various types of chemical processing equipment, and documenting results to ensure the creation of various grades of carbon black.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Must have an impeccable attention to detail
  • Precise documentation skills
  • Successful completion of TCCB’s internal Plant Operator training program

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years in manufacturing operations experience
  • Solid analytical and math skills

Responsibilities

  • Execute plant start up tasks in an efficient, safe and effective manner
  • Operate a variety of process equipment, including reaction systems, filters, reactors, pumps, and centrifuges in compliance with prescribed operating procedures.
  • Follow established operating procedures to create various grades of carbon black including but not limited to:
  • Set up and adjust controlling and indicator devices
  • Monitor and record reactor changes, noting changes in chemical and physical properties and compositional changes of product.
  • Adjust valves and controls to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and flow levels
  • Maintain log of gauge readings, shift production, and equipment malfunctions
  • Monitor the salt and oil ratio up/down during the process
  • Properly PM micros
  • Execute reactor lighting procedure safely and effectively
  • Calculate the time that certain grades of carbon black need to be in a tank to reach required production targets
  • Recognize the roles of all chemicals and additives that go into as well as how and when each need to be integrated into the operation process
  • Exercise extensive knowledge of reactors, bag filters and blowers and how to operate each in various situations during operation
  • Change, handle, replace oil tubes (weighing 30-40 pounds each); micro screens (20-30 pounds each); powder pumps (50-75 pounds) at a minimum two times per week (most items will need to be managed with no assistance)
  • Draw product samples for testing to ensure product meets specifications
  • Ability to effectively and safely initiate and complete grade changes
  • Execute emergency shutdown procedures efficiently and safely
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervision.
