About The Position

ASU Plant operators perform start-up and shut-down activities as well as Preventative and Corrective Maintenance. They interface through electronic, pneumatic and/or mechanical systems to control the air separation unit to meet the expectations of our pipeline and merchant customers. The role involves maximizing efficiencies, minimizing downtime, and ensuring the integrity of stored and shipped products. Plant operators are expected to be proactive and innovative in finding solutions to ensure an efficient operation and a safe work environment. This position requires rotating shift work as required by the plant manager.

Requirements

  • Interface through electronic, pneumatic and/or mechanical systems to control the air separation unit.
  • Maximize efficiencies, minimize down time and ensure integrity of stored and shipped products.
  • Accept responsibility to be proactive and innovative in solutions to ensure an efficient operation and safe work environment.
  • Obtain knowledge base of the theory of air separation and related equipment associated with the process.
  • Understand the plant's water chemistry to assure proper cooling tower operations and equipment functioning.
  • Be safety conscious, i.e., meetings, work areas, eliminate hazards, etc.
  • Good communication skills (inter departmental, team members, vendors, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Manipulates air separation controls to meet product specifications and production requirements.
  • Adjusts plant control variables, monitors and manages process equipment parameters to meet production goals.
  • Develops skills to troubleshoot, evaluate process upsets, and take corrective actions.
  • Develops ability to interpret Process & Instrument Drawings to understand process operations, equipment, and aid in troubleshooting system anomalies.
  • Participates in the maintenance/updating of work instructions to assure accurate and current start-up and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude, evaluates equipment performance, performs routine calibration and maintenance of analytical test equipment, and maintains appropriate records.
  • Prepares and maintains production operations and distribution records to meet the requirements of FDA, DPA, OSHA, ISO Quality Systems, and other internal and external requirements.
  • Prepares QA documents to certify product quality; transcribes/transfers data from process computer data bases and tables, etc. to prepare product loss and reports.
  • Reviews and releases medical grade product per FDA regulations.
  • Troubleshoots the causes of plant operational issues and alarms, either directly or in conjunction with the local team.
  • Assists with starting/stopping the plants in a safe manner as dictated by operating conditions and business needs.
  • Optimizes plant performance by tracking performance data and implementing the best operating plan for all plants.
  • Executes productivity ideas and Best Practices to keep plant costs down.
  • Interacts closely with all supporting groups/personnel for performance optimization and troubleshooting.
