About The Position

This role assists the Plant Operations Director and department staff with various projects, focusing on skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of hospital mechanical systems. Responsibilities include completing scheduled, routine, and emergency work orders in a timely manner. The position may involve instructing or leading other technicians and contract workers. Additionally, the role provides security-related duties during weekday daylight hours and assists with emergency repairs through a call rotation. Compliance with all hospital training and safety requirements is mandatory. The Painter is responsible for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of paints, stains, and solvents.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent
  • Training in de-escalation techniques such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI); must be able to register within one year of accepting position.
  • Knowledge on how to scrape, sand and fill surfaces in preparation for painting and finishing.
  • Knowledge on how to apply undercoats and finish coats with brush or by spray machines.
  • Knowledge on how to paper hang.
  • Knowledge on how to match paints and finishes.
  • Knowledge on how to clean and maintain brushes and other equipment.
  • Knowledge on how to paint simple designs.
  • Knowledge on how to estimate the cost of painting jobs.
  • Knowledge on how to advise in the selection, ordering, and storing of painting materials.
  • Knowledge on how to consult with other tradespeople.
  • Knowledge on how to keep simple records and make reports.
  • Knowledge on how to instruct and lead unskilled assistants.
  • Ability to prepare lists of materials and supplies.
  • Ability to estimate job costs.
  • Ability to lay out a job.
  • Ability to direct the work of three or more helpers or craftspeople exercising only limited supervisory responsibility.

Nice To Haves

  • An Operating Engineer license is preferred
  • An EPA Section 608 Refrigeration Certificate is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist Plant Operations Director and department staff in any project that may be required.
  • Perform and complete assigned Scheduled Maintenance Work Orders, Routine and Emergency Work Orders in allotted and timely manner.
  • Perform a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of boiler, heating, air conditioning, ventilating, lighting, power, water, water treatment, and other mechanical systems normally found in a Hospital.
  • May instruct or lead other Technicians; may instruct or lead contract workers; and do other related work.
  • Provide Security related duties M-F during daylight hours.
  • Maintain cooperative work relationship with others.
  • Assist in the call rotation and respond to emergency repairs.
  • Comply with all Hospital training and safety requirements.
