About The Position

The Plant Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that equipment is running efficiently and producing quality products and packages. This role involves repairing and maintaining all plant and warehouse equipment, machinery, and systems, as well as performing preventative maintenance. The Plant Mechanic must cooperate with equipment operators and other plant, warehouse, and maintenance employees. They are also responsible for the safe and efficient operation of their equipment and the safety of those operating it. Other duties may be assigned by management, and the mechanic may be required to relieve as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years maintenance experience in a high speed machinery environment (preferably dairy)
  • Previously worked with the principals of mechanical (hydraulic and air) and electrical machines
  • Knowledge in refrigeration machinery / equipment
  • Knowledge of boiler operation and mechanics
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Perform the following physical behaviors repetitively throughout a shift: standing, walking, handling, reaching horizontally, reaching above the shoulder, reaching below waist, grasping firmly, pushing buttons, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, pulling and pushing
  • Push/pull a manual pallet fork truck, up to 1000 ponds and/or ability to operate an electric fork truck
  • Ability to work in cold and damp environments
  • Climb ladders of varying heights and perform various functions while on the ladder
  • Ability to withstand noisy environments
  • Possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience of ammonia refrigeration a plus

Responsibilities

  • Ascertain that equipment is running efficiently and producing quality products and packages
  • Repair and maintain any and all equipment and systems as required
  • Perform preventative maintenance on plant & warehouse equipment, machinery, and systems as required
  • Cooperate with the equipment operators and other plant, warehouse, and maintenance employees
  • Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the equipment on which he works and the safety of those operating it
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
  • Relieve as the manager deems necessary
