About The Position

The Plant Manager is responsible for providing students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, work, and develop. This role involves overseeing the maintenance and operation of the school's facilities, including regulating HVAC systems, ensuring building safety, performing minor maintenance, and responding to emergencies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid Alabama driver's license
  • Eighteen years of age
  • Good knowledge of power tools, materials and methods to safely perform the work required.
  • Ability to perform grounds keeping and minor maintenance.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions and temperatures.
  • Ability to observe and report needs for maintenance and supplies.
  • Ability to get along with students, teachers and general public.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders or scaffolds.
  • Ability to move furniture, supplies and materials.
  • Physical dexterity, mobility, and strength to stoop, climb, lift heavy weights, reach parts and supplies, and perform the essential functions of this position.
  • General knowledge of HVAC, painting, plumbing, electrical, small engine repair, locks and doors, operating power tools, and other required skills.

Responsibilities

  • Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperature appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
  • Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  • Establishes priorities on repairs and general building maintenance, both inside and outside the building.
  • Examines the school building and grounds on a regular basis for safety, repairs and general maintenance needs.
  • Completes requests for general repairs or projects.
  • Requests assistance for general repairs or projects beyond the capabilities of the school.
  • Replaces light bulbs and cleans light covers as needed with help from custodial personnel.
  • Takes care of the school's security system during the day and after work hours by responding to emergency calls from the service provider, police department, and fire department as directed by the principal.
  • Orders materials and supplies as needed for repairs and general maintenance of the school.
  • Moves furniture, supplies and materials as needed.
  • Assists with custodial duties as needed.
  • Assists with the care of athletic facilities as needed.
  • Assumes other reasonable and equitable duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor(s).
  • Subject to be on call seven days a week, 24 hours a day in case of emergencies that may threaten the school system's property or equipment.
  • Oversees heating and cooling systems.
  • Maintains fire safety records as required.
  • Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment as may be assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary based on employment for complete year.
  • Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
