About The Position

The Plant Manager II is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Shelbyville, IN manufacturing facility, a team of approximately 400 employees. This role champions safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale (SQDCM) metrics, driving continuous improvement through lean manufacturing principles. The Plant Manager will manage the plant's budget, capital plan, and cost-reduction roadmap, while ensuring asset reliability and providing engineering support. Key leadership responsibilities include developing the plant leadership team, managing labor relations under a collective bargaining agreement, and fostering a positive, high-engagement culture. This position requires strong collaboration with internal and external customers, including automotive OEMs, and adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or related field required.
  • 8+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience.
  • 3+ years as a Plant Manager or senior operations leader in automotive components manufacturing.
  • Prior experience managing a unionized hourly workforce, including CBA administration and grievance handling, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Direct experience supplying Toyota or another Japanese OEM strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Toyota Production System (TPS) and Toyota Business Practices (TBP).
  • Automotive glass, tempering, coating, or related glass-processing experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with SAP and other systems.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a zero-incident safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and corporate EHS standards.
  • Own site safety performance and drive root-cause corrective action on all incidents and near-misses.
  • Ensure environmental compliance with air, waste, and wastewater permits.
  • Lead readiness for EHS audits and maintain ISO 14001 / IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Maintain IATF 16949 quality system compliance and meet customer quality requirements.
  • Ensure rapid containment, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action on quality issues.
  • Sustain robust in-process controls, error-proofing, and layered process audits.
  • Serve as executive-level escalation contact for customer quality and supplier-performance reviews.
  • Meet 100% on-time, in-full delivery to customers.
  • Oversee production scheduling and capacity planning.
  • Maintain and test contingency and business-continuity plans.
  • Oversee inventory management to balance service level with working capital.
  • Partner with corporate purchasing and site materials team on supplier performance.
  • Ensure efficient warehouse and logistics operations.
  • Lead daily/weekly management system (tiered accountability meetings) driving SQDCM metrics.
  • Own plant KPIs including OEE, first-pass yield, scrap rate, throughput, labor productivity, and customer scorecards.
  • Drive lean manufacturing, kaizen events, and structured problem solving.
  • Lead new-program launches and capacity expansions.
  • Develop and manage the plant's annual operating budget, capital plan, and cost-reduction roadmap.
  • Monitor and control conversion cost, labor cost, scrap/rework, utilities, and overtime.
  • Prioritize and justify capital investment for equipment, tooling, and facility improvements.
  • Ensure preventive/predictive maintenance programs sustain equipment uptime.
  • Partner with plant and corporate engineering on process improvement and problem resolution.
  • Oversee facility infrastructure, energy management, and long-range capital and equipment planning.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the plant leadership team and build bench strength.
  • Serve as management's primary representative in collective bargaining agreement (CBA) administration, grievance resolution, and union relations.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, high-engagement culture.
  • Drive workforce planning, staffing, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Create positive working relationships with internal team members and leadership teams.
  • Adhere to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
