About The Position

The Block Plant Manager manages the productivity and overall operations of the assigned Block Plant. This role ensures that company safety and environmental regulations are followed, oversees all plant operations and personnel, trains and develops employees, and maintains plant equipment and supplies. The manager also works with Sales and Dispatch to set production schedules, assists in customer service, performs quality control tests, and leads emergency responses. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

  • 4 years’ experience in the concrete or masonry industry.
  • Written communication, verbal communication, and basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to use a computer and iPad, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to compute basic material calculations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • A basic understanding of both the operation and maintenance of block plants and equipment.
  • High School Education

  • Prior managerial or supervisory experience preferred.
  • College/Undergrad Preferred Education.
  • Bilingual in Spanish Preferred.
  • Operate loader (if qualified).
  • Fill in for colleagues (at other locations) as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that company safety regulations and policies are followed at all times, including ensuring employees have and wear required PPE, and immediately notifying appropriate managers of any safety problems.
  • Oversee all plant operations and personnel, including training, development, motivation, performance appraisals, and timely response to employee concerns.
  • Hold regular meetings with assigned personnel to review safety, provide information/training, and update company information.
  • Ensure the block plant and related equipment operate properly, including regular inspections, greasing, oil checks, cleaning, and ensuring material handling equipment is functional.
  • Schedule and assist with preventative maintenance items for plant equipment.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment remain in safe and efficient operating condition through monitoring of preventative and regular maintenance, and keeping them neat and clean.
  • Maintain adequate levels of all supplies and products (e.g., fuel, cement, admixtures, pallets, raw materials) and maintain accurate reports.
  • Work with Sales and Dispatch to set the production schedule, meeting customer demands while maintaining efficiency.
  • Assist Sales and Dispatch in servicing customers by addressing specific problems, providing advice, and responding to complaints.
  • Take samples and perform tests as necessary, complete required documentation, and inform Technical Services of any quality problems.
  • Ensure proper procedures and documentation are followed after an accident or injury, and notify the Safety Department as required.
  • In an emergency or disaster, alert others and lead an evacuation if needed.
  • Ensure all company environmental regulations and policies are followed and notify appropriate managers of any environmental problems.
  • Respond in a timely and courteous manner to concerns and complaints from nearby residents or forward issues to the appropriate manager.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as necessary, such as cleaning up around the plant and picking up equipment or supplies.
  • Operate loader (if qualified).
  • Assist with the clean-up of concrete and material spills.
  • Fill in for colleagues at other locations as needed.
  • Volunteer and participate in company events.
