About The Position

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and construction of sand and gravel and concrete production facilities and all associated equipment. This role performs a broad range of maintenance operations, including welding, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hydraulic, and pneumatic work, in accordance with technical specifications and applicable safety regulations. The majority of work is performed outdoors across multiple plant sites in a field-based capacity, requiring the ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of crews and teams while ensuring operational continuity, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance. This position is designated Safety Sensitive and plays a critical role in protecting personnel, equipment, and environmental integrity across Chaney Enterprises' plant operations; success in this role depends on a strong team-oriented mindset and the ability to work productively within diverse crew environments.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in welding and metal fabrication.
  • Experience performing electrical installation, repair, and maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare accurate reports and documentation.
  • Functional mathematical skills sufficient to support maintenance calculations, measurements, and parts specifications.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and operate iPad, iPhone, and company-designated software applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Familiarity with sand and gravel processing and concrete plant operations and equipment.
  • Vocational or trade school training in a relevant discipline such as industrial maintenance, electrical systems, welding, or mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, constructs, and assembles new sand and gravel and concrete plant equipment and structures in accordance with engineering specifications and company standards.
  • Performs comprehensive maintenance and repair operations across all plant systems, including welding, fabrication, mechanical repair, electrical work, plumbing, hydraulics, boiler systems, and compressed air systems.
  • Maintains and services a full range of plant equipment, including feed systems, conveying systems, scrubber systems, shaker systems, classifying systems, discharge hopper systems, weigh systems, cement storage systems, central mixer systems, load-carrying systems, drive systems, water systems, air systems, electrical systems, crusher systems, hydraulic systems, recycling systems, and structural systems.
  • Conducts scheduled equipment inspections in accordance with the company's inspection schedule and prepares accurate, thorough equipment inspection reports upon completion.
  • Operates company vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner; performs all required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and completes daily inspection reports as required.
  • Reports any accident, injury, near-miss, or equipment incident to the supervisor and Safety Department in accordance with established procedures; completes all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains plant sites and equipment in a clean and orderly condition at all times; performs site housekeeping tasks including sweeping, shoveling, material removal, and general labor as directed.
  • Identifies and communicates potential or existing safety hazards immediately to the direct supervisor and Safety Manager; adheres to all company safety policies and all applicable governmental regulatory requirements.
  • Wears all required personal protective equipment (PPE) consistently and correctly for all assigned tasks and work environments.
  • Follows all applicable environmental regulations; takes immediate corrective action to contain, clean up, and report any excess material, spill, or condition with potential environmental impact.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, and equipment schematics to guide installation, repair, and maintenance activities.
  • Utilizes company-issued mobile technology, software applications, and documentation systems to record work orders, inspection reports, and related field data accurately.
