About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to manage and lead the plant maintenance for DeKalb County Watershed Management. This role involves supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff, prioritizing and scheduling work activities, and managing the maintenance of production equipment in the main plant and at remote stations. The position also manages the computerized maintenance management system, oversees the purchasing process for the maintenance department, and is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Five years of work experience in the maintenance and repair of water and/or wastewater treatment plant facilities and equipment.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Must obtain Georgia Water Distribution Operator License or Wastewater Collection System Operator license within two years of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, including developing work schedules, compiling timesheets, and addressing employee concerns.
  • Prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives, ensuring subordinates have necessary resources and monitoring work in progress.
  • Manages and coordinates the maintenance of production equipment at various water and wastewater facilities, including analyzing and prioritizing emergency repairs.
  • Instructs and assigns subordinates on needed repairs and preventative maintenance, coordinating schedules and monitoring repairs for quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manages the computerized maintenance management system database, auditing records and analyzing equipment usage for efficiency improvements.
  • Manages the purchasing process for the maintenance department, including establishing inventory levels, creating and updating asset management databases, and tracking departmental purchases.
  • Screens maintenance purchase requests, contacts suppliers, and approves payments.
  • Develops and maintains a yearly budget for the maintenance department.
  • Maintains a safe working environment, trains employees on personal protective equipment, and administers accident and injury reporting.
