About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to manage and lead the plant maintenance for DeKalb County Watershed Management.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Five years of work experience in the maintenance and repair of water and/or wastewater treatment plant facilities and equipment
  • Three years of supervisory experience
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Must obtain Georgia Water Distribution Operator License or Wastewater Collection System Operator license within two years of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
  • Manages and coordinates the maintenance of production equipment in the main plant and at remote stations which include raw water intake, ground storage re-pump stations, booster pump stations, elevated tanks and PRV; analyzes the severity and prioritizes emergency repairs to maintain plant downtime and maximize plant productivity; instructs and assigns subordinates in needed repairs and preventative maintenance; and coordinates preventative maintenance schedules and monitors and inspects all necessary repairs for quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Manages the computerized maintenance management system database; audits production records for daily equipment usage; and analyzes equipment usage for ways to improve production efficiency.
  • Manages purchasing process for the maintenance department; establishes warehouse inventory items and levels; creates and updates asset management database; creates stock codes for warehouse items and sets stocking levels; runs work order reports, material costs reports and equipment failure history reports; captures materials, labor and contractors costs; screens maintenance purchase requests and contacts suppliers on costs, quality and substitution requirements; tracks departmental purchases from initiation stage through delivery and storage; and approves payment and develops and maintains a yearly budget.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment; trains employees on personal protective equipment; and administers and maintains accident and injury reporting.
